IIIF is the acronym for the International Image Interoperability Framework, a model for presenting and annotating content on the web, such as images, audio/visual files and, in future, 3D models. The aim is to make digital resources on the Internet more visible, usable and interoperable. This is intended to remove barriers to the exchange and transfer of data and gradually eliminate data silos.
OpenUp! Training Course
OpenUp! developed a training that offers a basic introduction to IIIF, its benefits and how to apply it to your image data.
This training is especially suitable if you are interested in raising the quality of your digital image resources for education and reserach purposes through the application of IIIF.
Here is what you can expect from the course:
- Introduction to IIIF in general and the benefits
- Samples of IIIF usage
- The IIIF APIs
- Using the IIIF Image delivery API
- Using the IIIF Presentation API
- Demonstration
- Further resources and help
After applying the Image API, the next step is to apply the Presentation API: this is the step from only delivering digital resources to viewing them. The training also includes an outlook on further application possibilities of IIIF.
The training is supplemented by two self-paced courses describing a workflow for applying the Image API and a tool for handling the Presentation API based on EDM metadata.
Further information on upcoming IIIF courses can be found on our event’s site.
