Accessible Digitization with the Digirati Manifest Editor
May 6 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Participants will first learn best practices for accessible digitization using IIIF Manifests, guided by community guidelines, W3C standards, and NISO recommendations. A demonstration will walk attendees through a practical, no-code workflow, illustrating how easy it is to create and publish accessible IIIF manifests using user-friendly web applications. The approach ensures that all participants, regardless of their familiarity with IIIF or technical skills, can learn how to use this powerful technology. First, we will create the manifest and add recommended accessibility features to it through the Digirati Manifest Editor. We will then view the manifest in a digital viewer and test our manifest’s accessibility with keyboard navigation and screen readers. Finally, we will show participants how we can share our manifests for both collaborative and display purposes. A comprehensive step-by-step guide will also be provided for participants to further explore these concepts independently. An interactive Padlet board will be attached to the guide to help facilitate discussion, encouraging participants to share feedback on the tools and ideas for promoting accessibility through IIIF.
