The first months in 2026 have passed and we want to give an update on important news and additions to the Europeana world. This year’s thematic focus lies on Research in general. Let’s dive in!
Europeana Pro is moving
Europeana Pro (pro.europeana.eu), the information page about everything that is happening in and around the Initiative, is moving. Since the launch of the new website for the Data Space for Cultural Heritage, the merging of Europeana Pro with the collection platform was planned. The merger is a gradual process, which means that Europeana Pro won’t vanish right away, but the content will slowly be shifted to the data space website. This content can now be reached via the menu button “Explore the Data Space” on the website.
A glance at Women’s History Month 2026
For this year’s Women’s History Month in March, Europeana once again created new activities, stories and collections, as well as a transcribathon. All the content about the richt and diverse histories of women across Europe and beyond can be found here. Explore the diverse topics, the compelling stories and fascinating characters.
EAF General Assembly
The EAF General Assembly (Europeana Aggregator’s Forum) took place in February 2026 and preceded the EAF Spring Meeting on 4 and 5 March 2026.
At this assembly, the EAF presented the new Accredidation scheme for data service providers, which defines their role. While the actual role of aggregators (data service providers) will not change, there are a few adjustments concerning the content and wording of the accrediation scheme.
Additionally, the meeting brought updates on the CEDCHE group, training possibilities for aggregators and the new EDM profiles for PIDs and 3D data (TwinIt! Part II).
ECHOES Second Annual Meeting in Poznan
The Second Annual Meeting of the ECHOES project took place on 18 March 2026 in Poznan. The attendants confered about trustworthy infrastructure for Europe’s digital cultural heritage, specifically about the current status of the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage in conjunction with the Data space for Cultural Heritage.
Twin It! Part II
The Twin It! Part II campaign ends in June 2026. The final event will take place in Limassol (Cyprus) on May 26 with a special Policy Roundtable. This event will also host a Hackathon from 27 to 28 May.
This year’s campaign (2025-2026) focused on the reuse intentions and possibilites of digitised 3D objects. In the course of the project, the requirements for Tier 4 in the EDM profile changed sligthly, together with some new profile specifications. The changes can be looked up in the Europeana Knowledge Base.
