Corals, Corn and Moss blogs published

During the first half of 2026, OpenUp! published three blog posts on the Europeana portal. These posts focused on moss, corn and corals.

A common thread running through the posts was the impact of climate change on these species – on the growth of mosses, the cultivation of maize and the life of corals. Another aim was to convey the history of scientific research into these plants and organisms and their cultural significance for humankind.

What’s next

We will continue with our writing activities and keep publishing stories about the living world and the effects of climate change, whilst also highlighting the link to cultural heritage in the stories.

If, as a researcher or curator of a natural history collection, you have a topic that fits within this overarching theme and would like to present it as a story on Europeana, please feel free to contact our OpenUp! team in Graz.
